On July 21st, we proudly celebrated Blink’s two-year anniversary! When we take a step back and look at how far we’ve come, we can’t help but want to share our story and our thanks with the Blink community. Blink has become the success that it is today because of each and every one of our supporters – your encouragement, your feedback, and your word-of-mouth – and it has been incredible watching both our team and our community grow at the rate that it has over these past few months. As some of you may know, Blink was founded by a semiconductor company called Immedia. Comprised of a group of MIT grads, Immedia specialized in video processing technology and the development of a unique, low-power chip. We sold B2B for years, however in 2013 we decided that it was time that we use this break-through technology to break into the consumer market. After numerous brainstorming sessions evaluating our strengths and the opportunities in the market, we landed on the idea of a low-cost, highly-efficient battery-powered HD security camera. Let’s call it Blink. Now came the hard part – funding. Though we were respected in the semiconductor industry, establishing ourselves in the consumer market was a whole different ball game. So how did we prove ourselves? We decided to pitch to the harshest and most important judge of all: the consumer. Thanks to crowd-funding and Kickstarter specifically we had the opportunity to raise funding while simultaneously revealing the wide-spread interest in our product, and on July 21, 2014 we opened our campaign. We had 45 days to reach our goal of $200,000, and 45 days later we had in fact raised over $1M through the generous support of nearly 7000 individuals who believed in us and our idea. Incredible. After months of rigorous testing, a $5.8M funding from our investors, and the continued support of our Kickstarter and pre-order community, we delivered. Lucky for us, the release of Blink conveniently (or strategically?) fell right during the Consumer Electronics Show in January. With the opportunity to make a real splash, we took full advantage. Earning amazing feedback from our users, recognition from well-respected publications such as the Verge, CNBC, Fortune, and Twice, and the title of CES Innovation Award Honoree, this is where the rest of our story begins. We have since sold over 35,000 Blink systems to families across North America and Europe and have earned over 500 5-star reviews (and counting!). We have made it our mission to make home security and peace of mind affordable and easy for every home, and we can proudly say that we are achieving this. We say “achieving” because our work is far from done – we are excited to continue our international expansion and to continue growing the Blink system with new features and products. Simply put, we’re excited for what the future has in store. That being said, the future can wait until tomorrow because today we celebrate how much we have achieved in these past couple of years.
